Cherating - The Magical Land of Sun, Sand, Sea and Surf

CHERATING - THE MAGICAL LAND OF SUN, SAND, SEA & SURF

Cherating is a famous beach town not only famous to Malaysians, but to surfers and beach bums alike worldwide.

About 47km north of Kuantan, the beach town is a hidden enclave along the famed stretch of Cherating Beach – immaculate and breath taking – lining the east coast of the Peninsular. So much so that the famous Club Mediterranee, commonly known as Club Med, set up its first Asia resort in Cherating.

Cherating is also a rendezvous point for surfers all over the world. The old Cherating Village has been known as ‘Surfer’s Haven’ since the 70’s, and every year without fail, surfers will return to Cherating to meet up with friends, and to test out the surf the South China Sea waves.
The old Cherating Village has a blend of modern and traditional. A stretch of road about 1km long runs parallel to the beach, dotted with charming and comfortable chalets, many of which face the beachfront.

Cherating has the perfect combination of great surf, wide stretch of white-sandy beach, a wealth of accommodation and dining choices and a classic surfers nightlife scene. Surfers linger for days and even months in this small enclave to catch the best waves and chill out with fellow surfers, exchanging the day's conquests at one of the chic bistros like Pippin's or Little Bali.

Besides that, you can also enjoy a number of fun activities in Cherating, such as batik painting, visiting a cultural village and the Cherating Turtle Sanctuary Centre, as well as cruising up Cherating River to watch the fireflies at night and mangrove forest during day time.

Hafiz Firefly Tours by Hafiz Firefly Activities
Hafiz Firefly Tour should be the highlight of the trip to Cherating. Take the boat cruise along Sungai Cherating to see the fireflies sparkle around the mangrove tree. The boat will take you alongside the trees to give you a really close look at these remarkable insects. Be surprised when Mr Mohd Hafiz, the owner of Hafiz Firefly Activities Centre shows his skill in communicating with the fireflies by calling them from the trees to fly onto the boat. Probably the only human being that able to communicate with these fireflies. .
